AA Meetings in Africa
AA has been established in Africa for decades, anchored by South Africa's large fellowship, active since 1946, with meetings also running in Egypt, Zimbabwe, Morocco, and Namibia.
Meetings across the continent follow the same 12-step program used worldwide. In South Africa, meetings run in English and Afrikaans; elsewhere English, French, and Arabic groups serve local and expat communities.
Finding English-Speaking Meetings
Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria have daily English-language meetings. Cairo, Casablanca, and Harare also host regular English-speaking groups. Check our city pages for specific meeting times and locations.
Understanding AA Meeting Formats
New to AA, or unsure which meeting to choose? These plain-language guides explain how each format works: what Alcoholics Anonymous is, open meetings, closed meetings, discussion meetings, speaker meetings, and Big Book study.
Meetings in Other Regions
The AA Directory also covers the United States, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America, over 130,000 meetings worldwide.
