AA Meetings in Canada

Canada has one of the world's largest AA communities, active since the 1940s, with more than 5,000 meetings running weekly across every province and territory. Meetings are coordinated by intergroups and central offices in each major city.

Meetings run in English across the country and in French throughout Quebec and francophone communities. Every format is available: open and closed discussion, Big Book study, step meetings, men's and women's groups, and a strong online meeting culture connecting rural and northern communities.

Finding English-Speaking Meetings

Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Halifax run daily English-speaking meetings; Montreal and Quebec City offer both French and English groups. Check each province page for city-by-city listings.

Understanding AA Meeting Formats

New to AA, or unsure which meeting to choose? These plain-language guides explain how each format works: what Alcoholics Anonymous is, open meetings, closed meetings, discussion meetings, speaker meetings, and Big Book study.

Meetings in Other Regions

The AA Directory also covers the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America, over 130,000 meetings worldwide.

Is there support in Canada for family and friends of someone who drinks?

Yes. 52% of the weekly AA schedule in Canada is open meetings, which anyone may attend, including family and friends who want to understand what someone they love is going through. In all, 15 weekly sessions run alongside an Al-Anon meeting.

Al-Anon is a separate fellowship for people affected by someone else's drinking, and Alateen is its program for teenagers. Both are free and list their own meetings, in person and online, at al-anon.org. This directory lists AA meetings only.

AA is not treatment. For detox, treatment and sober living, see what other alcohol support there is besides AA.
